About One Fat Man
A few years ago I was reasonably lean and fit. Now I’m a fat sod. Instead of a gym membership or a personal trainer, I’m gonna keep this fatman blog about dropping weight and getting fit.
At the start of this thing I’m 195lbs – 88.5kg or thereabout. I want to get down to 170lbs – 77kg. I want to be able to comfortably run around in the woods near my house for an hour and half, and ride my bike with friends for 120kms or so.
I’m not making much of a plan, other than- start easy, be consistent, build slowly. I’ll do more workouts in a week, over fewer + longer workouts. I’m gonna mix up my activities with no particular methods in mind, doing what feels right for the day. Because there’s still so much f*king snow here, I’ll cross country ski at the start—which is fine really I love skiing. I’m just surprised its so good still this late in the year.
I’ll also: run, go to the gym and do weights (mostly circuits), ride my bike on the trainer, ride my bike outside (when the snow finally melts), do a bit of yoga and maybe do some plyometrics, swiss ball and other push up/sit up type stuff… but honestly if I start doing enough yoga, I won’t need any of that other crap.
Along with exercising, I’ll adjust my diet. I’ll cut out some sweets. I’ll stop drinking so much beer. I might consider cutting cream from my coffee and cutting down on butter… but we’ll see how it goes before taking such a drastic step. Like exercising, I think the most important thing you can do with your diet is use common sense, be consistent, keep it simple and keep it real (like real food, not processed crap). I don’t eat often enough. I’m going to eat the same way I’ll exercise, with more frequency, and low quantity. I have to start eating breakfast and stop eating after 8PM. Anyhow we’ll see how that goes and if I get really motivated I might—god forbid—start a food diary.
