More reasons why I hate Rogers

OK, Rogers is the worst cell phone provider on the planet, unfortunate as that may be they also seem to be the best option for GSM in Canada. ughhh. Alright fine. Here’s more reasons why I hate them.

I was on a trip recently and lost my phone charger. This happens every few years to me. I’m jammed up need to get my phone back working. So I go to a Rogers retail store. They sell me an aftermarket Blackberry compatible charger for $50.00. Wow I think, that’s kind of expensive… actually really expensive I thought. I’ve got no choice though. I’m stuck on Vancouver Island in a small place and I do really need that phone to work. I get it.

I go back to the in-laws house and fire up the internets to see what you can get online. Sure enough at some pretty slick online stores you can get an original Blackberry charger for $8.99. OK so Rogers just ripped me off $40.00.

Here’s the kicker. I almost didn’t even care. I mean with the over-billing, shifty online account reporting – that never seems accurate, excessive roaming and data fees I really didn’t care. I felt like I actually got off easy, those crooks have taken me for thousands of dollars what the hell’s another 40 gonna matter?

I suck it up and get on with life. First plugging my dead phone in with the new charger. I come back a couple hours later… my battery indicator is still blood red . Hmm wtf? My old charger used to be lickity split. Usually in 30-40 mins I had a good charge back and could go on with business. It takes this new charger about 18 hours to charge the phone. It doesn’t really get any better.

So I buy another charger, a new battery, a holster and a micro sim card from that online store I found. The whole order is under $40.00 with shipping…. and comes pretty quick. I get the charger out, plug it in and voila… phone charged in 30mins.

Do we really need to express why we hate Rogers? I just hope the market is opened further more and they get a hell of run for their money by some giant from US or Europe.

I am so frustrated I can’t even type … I just happened to work from home today. I receive a phone call from Rogers. Some poor under trained kid over the phone named “Brandon” is telling me that the 15% discount that I have enjoyed from Rogers is expiring at the end of this month. I have been having the same billing with Rogers sine 2002 when we bought the house and move to this new address. Prior to this, I was a long time Rogers cable client since 1990. This poor kid managed to tick me off so bad and got my blood boiling … He finally didn’t have an answer for me and he hung up on me…

At this day at age that they are in full waged war with Bell they have the balls to call me up and tell me I have to pay 15% more as of next month, just because some silly made up promotion is expired after 7 years! I guess they don’t want o keep a long time client happy. Did I mention that between the digital cable service, high speed internet access and my phone and data package on my Blackberry I pay at least $250 per month to Rogers … apparently that is not enough and they want 15% more. This is when I know my colleagues at work pay at least $25 per month less on their black berry from either Telus or Bell, which by the way as of this summer also provide GSM service. There is not a week when I don’t receive a new offer from Bell to switch over for a highly discounted rate … Are the executives at Rogers that stupid to realize this? Do they want me to pull the plug on them and register another site like “Why I hate Rogers” or “Why Rogers sucks so badly” … Is it me or others have also experienced this?

I also received a telephone call from a representative telling me that after 12+ years with Rogers, and being a VIP customer, and paying every bill on time without fail, I was losing my 15% bundle discount too. The woman on the telephone had the gall to ask if I was happy with my service, and when I ranted for a full fifteen minutes of disrupted service, poor customer service, unreasonable fees, she said, “Oh I’m so sorry to hear that,” and quickly changed the subject. I was and remain livid about this.

What makes me even angrier is how Rogers and Bell have a monopoly on the market. I live in a high-rise that does not allow satellite dishes, so I can’t even use Bell, and Bell’s “TV through the phone” isn’t offered in my area. Not that Bell is much better, but at least I would have an option! How can two companies control it all? How is this allowed?

Thanks for commenting Vanessa. I’m so glad I’m not alone. Funny thing now is my wife wants an iPhone so we kind of have to stick with Rogers :(

@MR pay your bill you’re an asshat. No one here has claimed they don’t pay their bill. Rogers are a bunch of crooks, and the worst mobile service provider in Canada.

I had a heck of time trying to make changes to my plan and eventually cancelled my account. The reps seem helpful but everytime I called I got a different story. I just sick of the run around. I will avoid them like crazy.

Hi: I am doing short animations which show various aspects of dealing with Rogers in a negative light. I use the BRICK wall as metaphor for their service department. I seem to be getting a lot of hits. Most are less than 40 seconds.
Keep up the good work. They all stink but Rogers really seems to get under ones skin. I think everything is run by AT&T anyway.

I have to laugh when I hear stories like this… first of all it’s you who lost the charger in the first place. If you knew that you have problems with loosing chargers you should have brought a backup just in case – I always have a backup charger. As for getting ripped off, yes $50 is way to much for a charger – but you are the one who paid for it and whose fault is that? I would also like to mention that it seems more like a rep error that sold you an aftermarket charger that doesn’t put out the right – just because the tip fits doesn’t mean it’s the right charger.

bla, bla, bla… CK probably works for ROGERS.

Who the hell are the morons saying just pay your bill… you want to know what rogers does and you reps who post on here dont get to see… is the massive insurance fraud rogers has been comitting since they started loosing customers daily. This is why they breach the canadian limitations act all the time and why hundreds of court cases are settled out of court now to keep the public unaware of the fraud Rogers is.

My gf reported her phone stolen and was told a minimum charge of 7 dollars per month would apply for 7 months… (on a stolen phone??) but either way that was better than paying in full… oh but wait… Rogers are full of shit and lie all the time. They changed absolutely nothing to the account and infact penalized her on top of the fraudulent charges. They sent no bill to her what so ever until it was sent to collections where it had amounted to 1600$ in 7 months on a stolen phone. This money was collected by rogers through insurance/collections fraud… now my gf has to fight in court to fix her credit and sue Rogers for commiting fraud on her. Fun times eh…

I have called them myself and placed formal requests to head office to speak to a head manager on the situation and they will not even call me back. but funny enough they dropped the total to 950$ right after a called and placed the formal complaint and told them I would take them to court.

But wait… theres more… Rogers is rated an F by the better business bureau… so is Bell. Guess what for… insurance fraud… Call them up and ask.

There are so many out standing cases of fraud and corrupt reps signing people up to receive commission on the duped customer.

Pay my bill… fuck you… if you charged fairly and stopped ripping people off… they would… people do not pay their bills for no reason. Most businesses dont have this problem what so ever… except you telecom morons that treat the Canadian’s like shit… the reps are trained to think this treatment is normal… but its not.

Oligarchy and monopolies run absolutely rampent in Canada and are kept their by our own government that often has ties to the corrupt company in question. Does this answer why we are forced to choose between two of the worst companies in Canadian history.

Here are some other stories to muse you all…

I called to ask to make a tv channel package because the Rogers website states you can add individual channels. So I asked them about this and I am told I can not do that unless I have the extreme package which has all their channels in it already. So I plainly say to the representative that what he just said makes no sense because how can I add singular channels to a package that already has all of them. He tells me they are not all in it. So I say what is not in the extreme package that I could add and he tells me A&E and then stops himself and says no wait thats in there. HBO oh no wait, oh discovery! no no sorry thats in there too.

By now I cut him off and say thats okay. If you didnt want anyone to be able to make a channel list for themselves, you should not post it on your website. Two months later, I can not find it on their site anymore. Guess they thought adding channels you already bought was a bit of an oxymoron.

How about the lady that called in because the cable line had been run from across the street and was now dangling. She was worried a truck would take out the line so she called and Rogers sent out a tech so they said… but no no they didnt. They didnt even schedule the appointment somehow. Woman calls back the day of the appointment asking whats going on and is told there was nothing scheduled. So they schedule it again. Show up a week later and by now a truck did infact take out the line just as she warned them. Tech guy blames the line on bell and says they have to fix it… why would they fix a cable line that rogers ran THEMSELVES from across the street… So bell comes out and tells her the obvious… that she is not a customer but that the line is infact rogers. He attached a sensor to the line to check for the right signal so this was for sure, Rogers problem… She calls rogers and they sent a guy out after a week again and says he did not bring the right tools and has no ladder. Now why would someone come out to fix a broken, previously hanging line without a ladder or the right tools. Another week goes by, guy comes back and tells her the line is fixed but her service is now off… so she calls back and tells them it is not working and that he has turned off her services by mistake but that the line is fixed. She asks them to reimburse her for all this time with no services and she is told no, that she should have asked for that before sending out the technician…

can this get any more fucking stupid people… this is just one of hundreds and hundreds of cases like this.

look up ihaterogers.com there are so many true stories of what Rogers does to their customers.

Now I wont deny there are lots of dumb ass people that can not pay their bill and do not get what they signed up for but then there is Rogers committing fraud on their customers and they do it a lot.
