An ominous perspective.
I was reading an old interview with Hans-Michael Holczer on bikeradar.com. He eluded to something ominous afoot in cycling that I’d not considered before:
“If the German TV channel which paid ASO 20 million euros to broadcast has now gone, someone else will come in, but they’ll pay four or five million. I’m absolutely certain that there are people watching this sport from the outside, just waiting for the value to drop even more so that they can come in and buy the whole lot – teams, organisers and everything. Then in the three years it’ll all be worth five times what it is today. I think that could be the biggest problem our sport is currently facing, but unfortunately it’s out of our hands.”
It’s known that Gerolsteiner‘s sponsorship is up at the end of this season now. Rumor is Redbull is coming in to take over with the team. Our s-club is on the hunt for a new sponsor too.
Oh, I just got back from a day of island hopping. Denman, Hornby, Vancouver Islands were all visited. My foot is still really bruised from skim-boarding. Other than hiking around today I did no other exercise. Yesterday I did 1.5hrs of Yoga during another lululemon day.
