Religion is back… with a vengeance. After years of taking it for granted that religious beliefs will recede into the private realm, the discussion about the role of religion in our culture came to define significantly the temper of our times.

A subset of this discussion, are the debates among atheists themselves. The question between does not pertain to God’s existence.  What is at issue is whether we should wish for a society that has emptied itself of religious metaphysics?

Our speaker this weekend is Camille Paglia.  She spoke in Toronto as part of the ROM's Director's Signature Series entitled The Three New Commandments, coinciding with the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition. 

TV Ontario's Big Ideas

Despite being a  professed atheist, Paglia has come out against the idea of Western societies cutting off their religious roots. Should be a good show this weekend. I'll Tivo-it or in Canada I guess we PVR-it . I watched Hitchens rip on God a few weeks ago… this should be an interesting follow up.
