Rapha

The balls to be different

I’m a big fan of the ‘brand’ Rapha is developing. It’s a sleek, hip retro look. I can’t say I have any of their clothes — I can’t afford it! But, I love it.

One thing struck me today as I was browsing through a recent issue of Bicycling magazine. I saw a Rapha ad and the riders were not wearing helmets. Fantastic - I thought. Good for them to have the balls to be different in the face of all the pro-helmet zealots. Good for them to promote cycling the way it should be – bear headed and free.

NOTES
I don’t read Bicycling by choice – I just feel I should to keep informed.
I don’t rip on people who choose to wear helmets, I think helmets are not a bad thing. I encourage new cyclists to wear one. I don’t approve of the pro-helmet crowd lecturing cyclist who choose to ride bear headed. Helmet use is a choice. The choice not to wear one is fine. The risks of riding bear headed are grossly over stated.

You’re an idiot. Only idiots don’t ride with Helmets. These dudes are british and are trying to relive the days when british cycling was still relevant :-)

British cycling is not relevant today yet…. they just dominated the Olympics, have produced the best sprinter in the world, have top riders on nearly every team in the pro tour, and had one of their riders nominated for knighthood. Who is that helmetless chap smiling front right? http://www.independent.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00036/Mark_Cavendish_36787a.jpg
