Off to Martinique
For the next 12 days I’m going to be blogging and twittering here www.twitter.com/wqwheelers and here www.wqwheelers.com . I’m off to Martinique with John Large and 6 bikers for the Tour de Martinique. John’s a bit of a Ottawa cycling legend, he’s always been a guy I’ve admired, respected and felt was a mentor to me. He’s also always been really active developing the sport at a grass roots level. This year I’ve been floating in the sport – doing the odd thing here and there since the club disbanded. One thing I have been keen on this year was joining the Wheelers and getting involved in a small way with developing some young riders. That was always part of the goal with Symmetrics . This trip to Martinique is my way to continue an effort towards that goal.
There are 6 riders traveling to Martinique Joel Dion-Poitras, Keir Plaice, James Larmer, Jean Sebastien Perron, Thomas Devischer and Stephen Keeping. Its a good little squad. The guys are keen. The tour is 9 days and 11 stages. It’s not a UCI race, but Martinique is a French Department. The race will be a French National race, as part of the FFC calendar. It will be tough, fast, competitive, well organized and fun. Follow the adventure on twitter and the Wheeler’s site. Oh, and happy Canada Day eh.
